Long-term Care Pharmacy Technician – Level II

Department: Pharmacy (LTC)
Reports To: Pharmacy Manager
Full/PartTime: Full Time
Hours: Part-time, 20 hours per week including one night per week and one Saturday per month


Assists pharmacists in preparing and dispensing of medications in the Long Term Care (LTC) Pharmacy.  Responsible for packaging prescription medications according to pharmacy standards.

High School Diploma or general education degree (GED) required in addition to completion of a one year Certified Pharmacy Technician program; or a minimum of six months related experience and/or training in a retail or long term care pharmacy setting.  Must have strong general math and computer skills.  Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations is necessary.  Strong customer service and interpersonal skills are essential.


  1. Gathers appropriate data to properly fill patient prescriptions and assists pharmacists in preparation and dispensing of medication.
  2. Accurately enters patient data into the pharmacy software programs.  Ensures that the correct insurance information is entered into the system and that claims are properly adjudicated.
  3. Trouble-shoots insurance issues and follows up to obtain correct orders from physicians.
  4. Processes customers' payment of prescriptions and payments on account.
  5. Interacts with customers, physicians, clinic staff and facility staff in a professional manner.
  6. Processes paperwork necessary to dispense medication and supplies according to regulatory or insurance guidelines.
  7. Maintains integrity of processes to ensure confidentiality of PHI.



  1. Maintains sufficient prescription inventory levels when ordering product for the pharmacies.
  2. Receives and stores incoming product and supplies, including counting, stocking and entering computer data.
  3. Performs other miscellaneous activities as requested.

This position is usually exposed to normal indoor working conditions; ability to stand for extended periods of time is required. Exposure to certain drugs may cause a potential for harmful effects and some individuals may not handle these drugs or gloves must be worn. A listing of potential hazards is available in the pharmacy and should be viewed before beginning any job.
