Full-Time Pharmacy Technician - Level II


Department: Pharmacy (LTC)
Reports To: Pharmacy Manager
Full/PartTime: Full Time
Hours: Full-Time

JOB PURPOSE

Assists pharmacists in preparing and dispensing of medications in the Long Term Care (LTC) Pharmacy.  Responsible for packaging prescription medications according to pharmacy standards. 

QUALIFICATIONS

High School Diploma or general education degree (GED) required in addition to completion of a one year Certified Pharmacy Technician program; or a minimum of six months related experience and/or training in a retail or long term care pharmacy setting.  Must have strong general math and computer skills.  Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations is necessary.  Strong customer service and interpersonal skills are essential.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Assists pharmacists in preparation and dispensing of medication.
  2. Interacts with customers, physicians, clinic staff and facility staff in a professional manner.
  3. Responsible for gathering appropriate information to properly fill a patient's prescription.
  4. Responsible for maintaining accurate records of medication and equipment dispensed to patients.  Responsible for accurate entry of patient data into the pharmacy software programs.  Ensures that the correct insurance information is entered into the system and that claims are properly adjudicated.
  5. Interacts with co-workers, pharmacists and vendors to resolve any discrepancies and to improve processes.
  6. Secures necessary information for required paperwork to comply with regulatory requirements.
  7. Processes paperwork necessary to dispense medication and supplies according to regulatory or insurance guidelines.
  8. Maintains integrity of processes to ensure confidentiality of PHI.

 

SECONDARY FUNCTIONS

  1. Processes customers' payment of prescriptions and payments on account.
  2. Maintains sufficient prescription inventory levels when ordering product for the pharmacies.
  3. Receives and stores incoming product and supplies, including counting, stocking and entering computer data.
  4. Performs other miscellaneous activities as requested.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

This position is usually exposed to normal indoor working conditions; ability to stand for extended periods of time is required. Exposure to certain drugs may cause a potential for harmful effects and some individuals may not handle these drugs or gloves must be worn. A listing of potential hazards is available in the pharmacy and should be viewed before beginning any job.
