5 Natural Health Tips to Try Today

We live in an age of passing health trends and fad diets, yet most Americans are still concerned about their lifestyle and how good it is for them. Thankfully, there are plenty of safe, easy, and natural ways to boost your health and well-being on a daily basis. Rather than splurging on the next weird exercise equipment trend, try one of our 5 natural methods of boosting your health today.

Keep Your Immune System Healthy

Prevention is better than cure! It’s an old adage, but a good one. Plenty of vitamin C, either through diet or supplements, can help boost and replenish the immune system. After illness, lots of fruit and veg or a vitamin tonic drink can help get you back to where you need to be and stop you falling foul of the next nasty virus flying around.

Eat Well

Eating well is all about getting a great balance of some of everything your body needs. This is a balance of carbohydrates, fat, fibre, protein, plus all the essential vitamins and minerals your body needs. A little salt and sugar don’t go amiss, but these should be kept to a minimum with the vast majority being fruit, veg, pulses, grains and lean proteins.

Take Your Booster Shots

This is a really simple one. Flu, for example, changes its game up every year. When people stop getting their shots, they start to catch the flu, which encourages antigenic drift, one of the processes by which the flu virus mutates to work against the human antibodies. Also, being vaccinated helps protect those who can’t get vaccinated, like very young babies or those with a suppressed immune system.

Keep Active

Physical activity is the key to preventing so many types of illness. If disability or disease limits your mobility, talk to a doctor or physical therapist about what your options are. Chair based exercises and even laying down exercises can help. At its most basic, exercise increases your heart rate and gets your lungs working. This improves your entire cardiovascular system, helping to prevent heart disease and improve brain function.

Regular exercise also helps prevent diabetes, some types of cancer, and according to a 2008 study by the team at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, lowers the risk of premature death by up to 30%.

Small changes can make all the difference. Walk instead of catching the bus. If you need to use transport, jump off a couple of stops early and take a brisk walk. Run through the park. Take the kids swimming. There are so many completely free ways to improve your level of physical activity.

Look After Your Mental Health Too

Your happiness is just as important as how hale and hearty you are. Thankfully, the stigma around mental health conditions is finally starting to wane. If you feel low or anxious, talk to a professional. Try and surround yourself with positive people- family and friends who care and who you enjoy shared interests and activities with. Find something that brings you joy, whether that’s a thrill-seeking adventure activity or a peaceful meditation, and incorporate it into your life on a regular basis.

By combining these simple tips to improve physical and mental well-being, you’re well on the way to becoming the healthiest and happiest you can be.
